From now on, check our new blog for all updates. There are some exciting updates posted today - about the survey responses and positive changes that we'll be making in 2010.

October 22, 2009

There will be a couple of changes for 2010 that you should be aware of.

New Blog!: Instead of cluttering inboxes with weekly emails of recipes and produce information, we will now be posting all that information on our new blog. This will insure that important information doesn't get lost to the spam folder and will also help get questions answered more quickly - because it will also act as a member forum where members can share recipes, ideas and information. Thanks for participating!

Vacations: We are no longer going to hold your box and double the next week's share for vacations. This has caused so much confusion and subsequent mistakes that more people were (understandably) upset than helped out by it. With our CSA program being as large as it is, we simply don't have the man-power to keep all of the "holds" and "doubles" straight. If you will be gone for your pick-up day during the season, you will need to arrange to have a friend or family member pick up your box. Otherwise, our practice is to donate any leftover boxes to the drop host. You will find this policy to be typical of most CSA programs out there.

Opt-out: The ability to opt-out of one produce item will only be offered this year as a benefit to returning members. Again, this is to save on the confusion and mistakes caused by having to keep too many things straight during packing.

Bushels and Flats: For 2010 produce that is available in larger quantities such as bushels or berry flats can be purchased at special member pricing and will be delivered to your drop host at no extra charge on your regular pickup day. However, you will no longer be able to replace a week's share with bushels or flats.

Remember the CSA concept: you buy a share of the farm and receive a portion of what is grown successfully. Zoe's grows far more varieties than any other organic farm in Utah. However, nothing in farming is certain, and every year conditions beyond our control may mean that certain crops do not flourish, as with potatoes, corn and carrots this year. We will continue to strive to provide you with the largest variety of fresh, organic produce available.

Lots of produce is getting planted: tomatoes, peppers, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, etc. If we don't get another frost, this season will be a good fruit season.

April 27, 2009

Lots of planting going on.
Things are growing.
Peas, onions, lettuce, greens, raspberries replanted, etc.

If the weather cooperates we plan on starting our season of deliveries (20 weeks) the first week of June. We also anticipate offering a late share in the fall (additional cost for additional weeks). Our early share idea, which would have started in May, will not be happening.

Onions and parsnips were planted over the weekend. 2009 growing list was updated.

Garlic is sprouting. We planted peas on March 6th. Planning to plant lettuce, spinach, and chinese greens on March 14th. We hope to plant cabbage next week. We are far ahead of where we were last year in planting. 2009 growing list (.pdf)

We are still waiting on confirmation of what fruit trees we will be getting in this Spring. If you were wanting to purchase one from us, we should know soon.

We are also considering offering an extended season share that would start earlier and end later than our standard 20 week season. We will keep you posted on our decision.
